Green DIY Energy

Step-by-step instructions on how to install a solar energy power system and a residential wind turbine for powering up your home.

Green DIY Energy bannerWith the world inevitably moving deeper and deeper into the much-feared energy crisis, it has become essential that we stop depending on non-renewable sources of energy -notably the fossil fuels - because we are rapidly reaching the end of our fossil-fuel reserves globally speaking.

Renewable energy solutions refer to those energy solutions that are sustainable because they are a never-ending supply of energy that we can tap into without fear of ever depleting reserves.

There are three main types of renewable energy solutions available to us:

solar power solutions
wind power solutions
hydro power solutions

Solar Energy Power Solutions

The sun’s energy is the most abundant energy available on Earth.  It is relatively easy to bring solar power solutions to your home, so that you will not only cut down on your power bills but, at the same time, contribute pro-actively to a greener world.

Solar energy power solutions can be used for:

solar heating solutions, solar showers
solar cookers
solar lighting solutions
solar heating for swimming pools and pool accessories
portable solar panels for camping and RVs

The sun has always been a wonderful source of heat and light for the world. With the advancement of technology, the sun’s energy can be harnessed and converted into forms that can power up the home, farm, town.

Solar energy systems have many advantages over fossil fuels:

  1. They are cost-effective - after the initial installation, there are no monthly bills arriving in the mail.
  2. They are environment-friendly with no carbon emisions at all.
  3. They are easy to manage and maintain saving time and effort.
  4. Solar systems give you a return on investment very soon, thus making the systems free after some time.
  5. Families have started using solar energy as a power solution at their homes.

Hydro Energy Solutions:

The hydro energy or water energy is an effective renewable energy in areas where there is adequate annual rainfall and/or accessible water sources such as rivers and creeks. Hydro energy can be converted into electrical energy and used to run vehicles and electrical appliances.

Hydro energy is typically generated on a large scale in vast hydroelectric schmes. It has been estimated that 90 percent of the electrical energy produced by renewable resources is produced solely by hydro power. Dams are built to help generate electricity by tapping the water power.

There have, however, been concerns raised about using large-scale hydro-electric plants constructed on artificially created dams on rivers. The negative impact on the environment has to be very carefully managed. Small-scale hydro plants are more in tune with green, environmentally friendly energy solutions. (See picture below). Their impact on the flora and fuana of the area can be kept at a minimum.

Wind Energy Solutions

Windmills, in one form or another, have been around for thousands of years and have been used for any number of tasks, from towing boats to pumping water and, in our own technologically more advanced times, for generating electricity.

With the modern design of windmill, now mostly called wind turbines, wind power can be harnessed and electricity generated from it for running the home and its array of electrical appliances.

Wind energy can generate vast amounts of electricity and  can begin to phase out conventional power sources. An excellent renewable energy solution, wind energy is on its way to fulfilling some of our needs as an alternative energy source.
